February

The moth is representative of a particular species found in the Australian Alpine National Park, where the majority of the conference and activities will be held. The ‘Bogong moth’ is a creature of some significance to the indigenous people of this area (both spiritually and as a food source) and seemed an appropriate symbol for MSLS alumni (below) hence it was chosen as the symbol of this gathering!

  • moths to a flame, attracted to the light
  • transforming from pupae into beautiful winged creatues
  • a small group of us flapping our wings, and creating storms of energy and wonder on the other side of the world
  • flitting here and there, bogong moths travel great distance each year…

Backcasting from the end of February 2009, it was an important first step to launch a web site so we could invite participation and begin to co-create the ‘who, what, when, where & how’ of our inaugural MSLS global alumni gathering in Australia - so here it is! From a kernel of an idea in 2005, not to mention many cups of tea and dialogue since, we are finally on our way to gathering as a ‘community of practice’ to learn, laugh, meet, share, party and extend ourselves with MSLS colleagues.

We see that our role for now is merely (in the words of someone who is no doubt familiar!) ‘creating an invitation to something meaningful, purposeful and learningful’ and putting in place the basic constraints that will make this event possible - logistics, organisation, travel, event management etc. Ultimately, the gathering will never be a success without your positive collaboration and input!

We look forward to the engagement of the entire alumni group and hope that you are as excited about this as we are!  The overall concept is one that is notionally put forward as a recurring event to be held once every four years, but more on that when you get here…

Hälsningar & stay tuned,

Scott Grierson (05), Andrew Outhwaite (06), Geneva Rae (06) & Richard Blume (06)
