It is also prone to natural disasters/extreme weather at various time of the year - many visitors greatly under-estimate the time and effort it takes to get from place to place (especially by road) so make sure you consider the travel time required and obtain local advice on weather etc before making bookings! Be aware that February is the ‘wet season’ (monsoon) in the northern half of Australia so it is very hot, very humid and (hence the name) rather wet!
